A disappointing visit.
I arrived a little early so I parked and walked around the neighborhood and felt it was really nice, and offered a good variety of restaurants and shoppes, as well as a Sainsbury’s local (always great for food options!).
Once I got back to check in, I found myself a bit disappointed. From the outside the space looks well maintained and beautiful, but on the inside, some updates are really needed.
- Lamp on bed table had a broken lamp shade
- Stains on a bedcover
- TV only played radio stations, which I guess is okay because the placement of the TV is blocked by the desk chair it sits on.
- Bathroom was teeny, if you’re tall don’t book a single room. My knees almost touched the heater in the bathroom when I’d use the toilet.
- No outlet by the bed for charging things.
- Bedside table wasn’t clean
- Chilly room. Bedroom heater didn’t work. Fortunately I travel with layers. And the bathroom heater was working when I checked in, but part way through the night it went off.
Would not stay here again.

Non aspettatevi assolutamente un 4 stelle. Camera ampia, letto piccolo, bagno finestrato il tutto al secondo piano con un passaggio di scale tanto stretto e ripido, non il massimo con le valigie. Moquette delle scale sbrindellata in diversi punti. Il Personale gentilissimo e la colazione buona, non eccelsa. Troppi i soldi pagati per questa camera. Troppi.

La struttura è romantica ma fatiscente e la pulizia assente da tempo, i segni di sporcizia sono atavici. Colazione scadente. Le foto della pubblicità sono ingannevoli.

Location not bad. Could do with a deep clean. Hot water took a long time to come through. Bed was comfy though!

Big room, a little cold due to original windows in a historic house.
Ensuite radiator didn't work so very cold.
Service was good when there.
Breakfast reasonable, not everything available as on the menu.

Had a fantastic stay at this lovely hotel! The staff were very friendly, kind, and accommodating. The internet wouldn't reach my room, but I was able to use the common spaces to do my work. The facilities are great, room was spacious, and the breakfasts were exceptional! Highly recommend if you are looking for a place in Dundee.

Had a lovely double room large and clean. There was plenty of snacks and water. Breakast very good and the owner very nice and helpful. Only thing didnt like was noise when bathroom light on. It was very loud when soaking in the bath. Otherwise perfect. Definitely recommend.

The Scottish tourist board claim this is a 4 star. It might have been once. It's a definite 2 star. The bed quilt was comfortable.

Charming old hotel in a great location. Family owned and run, with first-rate service. Breakfasts are tasty and generous. Highly recommended.

Very cosy, clean and warm hotel, close to the city centre and the estuary. For the price, I cannot complain, I was provided with snacks in my room that exceed those in chain hotels and breakfast was also included. Would definitely recommend for short stay and will definitely revisit the next time I am in Dundee.

This place looks very nice from the outside however not so good on the inside. It is very tired, old fashioned and needs redecoration. Our room, number 2, was a good size with a good sized bathroom. The shower was pathetic, took ages to warm up and was not powerful. It never got hot. The window blind was broken, the toilet seat was cracked, the shower tray split on the outer edge with black mould growing on the split. The bedroom window had black mould growing on it. The wall where the television was fixed to had several holes where drilling had been done wrong and not been refilled and repainted. (Please look at the photographs). The floorboards creaked. The WiFi was rubbish. We could only pick up one channel on the television. Finally the carpet at the top of the the stairs was threadbare. The plus sides were that it was cheap, the bed was comfy and warm and breakfast was pretty good.

Staff are always very welcoming and do everything to make the guests comfortable. The breakfasts are lovely and generous. The furnishings could do with a bit of renewal (torn curtains, carpet stains, marked walls and mould around the bath)but otherwise clean. Convenient location for Dundee city centre and Riverside etc.

Great the top triple room was massive for someone who stays away a lot out of the year this was probably the most comfiest bed I've ever stayed in and the best duvet they had probably why the best night sleep I've had in years

Was greeted by a lovely lady and invited to sit in the lounge till my takeaway was ready. Meal for two could have fed 3 or 4 people, tomorrow's lunch sorted! Chicken burger came with loads of chunky chips. Food was amazing - reasonably priced, fresh, hot and really tasty. Will definitely order again!

Just lovely. We arrived late due to delayed flight into Edinburgh and had to get an uber as we had missed the train,but we were met at the door and checked in fast.lovely comfy quiet room.great breakfast, great staff,and they let us leave our bags for a couple of hrs .thank you... would highly recommend this beautiful place.

I would like to give a review on the Shaftesbury Hotel, We as a family wanted to try the food as we had heard some wonderful stories about the food so we ordered a variety of chicken, lamb dishes rice and different chutneys, poppadoms, nan breads, the flavours were out of this world, the service was impeccable and the staff were very welcoming and very friendly, if you’re looking for an outlet to eat in or out, whether you live in Dundee or visiting, my go to place would be the Shaftesbury Hotel, shall be returning in the future 5* thank you to all.
